2020 Club Championships

NEW ZEALAND CHARTERED CLUBS 2020 MEN'S FOURS.

Congratulations to John Simons (R), Alan Jones, John Simons (L), and Reg Archer who won this event played in the Hutt Valley over the week to Friday 14th March.

This is a very competitive event and it is great to see Mount Maunganui come out as the winners again.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FOURS 15th - 16th March.

This event was played over the weekend.

In the ladies event Noeline Mace picked up her second club championship for the season, having earlier won the pairs.

Noeline's team comprised Marlene Neems, Diane Fogarty and Jacqui Strydom who prevailed over Ann Loomb, Gloria Duffin, Deirdre Parkes and June Jefford by 13 shots to 7 in the final.

In the men's event, the team of Bryan Campbell (s), Gary Andrews, Bryan Duffin, Don Parkes emerged 15-11 winners over Steve Beel (s), Paul Anderson, Neil Wilson & Hopa Bell.

CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES UNDER 5 Years and under

Men's and Ladies events were played on the 1st February.

There were four men's entries so the event was played as a round-robin with Murray Armstrong emerging the winner and Warren Harford the runner-up.

In the ladies event the two entries were Diane Fogarty & Rosemary Harford who played the best of two games out of three.  Diane won the first two games to come out the winner. 

CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES 20th January 2020

The men's and women's events were played over the weekend and a high standard of play was evident.

 In the women's event Meredith Pottage came out the winner over Kath Steiner 21-14.  Kath played steadily but Merediths experience and consistency won through.

The four semi-finalists in the Men's event were President Rodney, Andre Hudson, Ian Newland and Kevin Maxfield.  Rod got off to a slow start against Andre but made a good recovery in the second half of the game scoring 10 shots to eight before Andre won 23-13.  Ian & Kevin had a good tussle with the score at 16 -18 to Kevin after 19 ends but Kevin scored a four on the 20th & last end for the win.

In the final, Andre was unable to produce his earlier form and Kevin's consistency, particularly with his 1st bowl on most ends,  saw him run out the winner 21-7.

CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS 24th November 2019

Good Bowls in good weather were played over the weekend.  Congratulations to Nathan Arlidge and Paul Anderson (s) who won the men's event, defeating Andre Hudson and Nick Tomsett (s) in the final.

 In the semi-finals, the Tomsett pair had a tight 13-12 win over the Simons combination, while the Ian Newland pair were the beaten team in the other semi.

Congratulations also to Jacqui Strydom and Noeline Mace (s)  who took out the ladies event over Kath Steiner and Bev Murdoch (s).

CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLES  20th October 2019

This event was concluded over the weekend. 

The ladies final was a cliff-hanger with the teams of Chris Topp, Teresa Bones & Carroll Mackie  and Marlene Neems, Alison Reilly, & Mary Thompson all square after 15 ends.  However the Neems team prevailed on the final end scoring a 3 for the victory.

In the men's event, Doug Russell, Sean Armstrong & Kevin Maxfield ran out comfortable 16-6 winners over Hopa Bell, Paul Anderson & Steve Beel.   This is Kevin's 11th Club title, having earned his club gold star (10 wins) when winning the Mixed Pairs earlier in the season.

MIXED PAIRS 20th and 21st September 2019

Kevin Maxfield and Margaret Hickey defeated Ian Newland and Alison Reilly in the final of this event over the weekend.

HANDICAP SINGLES 14th and 15th September 2019

This event was completed over the weekend. The men's semi-finals saw Arthur Ball defeat Rod Warrender  and Paul Anderson defeat Sean Armstrong. Paul ran out a 21-14 winner in the final.

Carroll Mackie was in outstanding form in the ladies event and was a comfortable winner over Ann Loomb.

WINTER SINGLES 10th and 11th August 2019

Despite the unfavourable elements this event was completed over the weekend. The semi finals saw Ian Newland defeat Murray Armstrong and Harley Neems defeat Peter Goddard.

The final was a thriller with great bowls being played. Ian lead until the 23rd end with the score at 18-17 but then dropped two's on the final two ends to allow Harley to take out the game 21-18.
